Review: Prestige eyeshadow Ballet

I've been using my Prestige eyeshadow in Ballet the last few days and I just want to say, I'm completely in love with it! I've mentioned in a previous post that I'm looking for a light pink eyeshadow to brighten my eyes without making me look like I've been crying and Ballet did it for me. What's more, the pigment is so good that Ballet actually shows up as pink on my skin!

Prestige eyeshadow have super good reviews on MUA. I'm a makeup newbie and only started expanding my stash however, like I've said in my previous post, I don't want to have so many that I can't finish them all! Plus I'm an absolute cheapo!

I've notice Prestige Cosmetics for a long time now but their single eyeshadow cost $7.99! I could never bring myself to buy an eyeshadow for that much! So I waited and waited and waited and finally I found some on clearance for $2.99! Unfortunately there was only three in the clearance bin of London Drugs so this was the only color I considered buying.

A laughable thing though, even though it was on clearance I had to think about it for a few days since my Annabelle trio in Rosewood was quite new (from before Dec actually... Yes I consider it new because I haven't even made a dent in it yet!). So imagine to my surprise when I went back and it was still there! Now this wasn't a Cosmo moment. In my mind I was thinking, "Is it still here because this brand sucks?"

In the end I'm glad I did buy the eyeshadow. The eyeshadow is very pigmented and the texture is very fine. It goes on smoothly without much fallouts. It is kind of sheer but that makes it easier to build up and blend out. There's only one thing I don't like, after applying I realized Ballet has a shimmer to it. In the pan it looks matte so I was disappointed about the shimmers. I like matte eyeshadow because shimmery eyeshadow makes me look like I have oily lids in photos.

Overall this eyeshadow is awesome! $3 for 2.2g of product. Pigmented, buildable, smooth, blendable, and long lasting! I will definitely try out their other colors (with the expectation they have shimmers unless other wise stated).

The post tittle speaks for itself. Since I'm going to Hong Kong I decided to make my inventory list so I won't be buying the same thing there. Hopefully hopefully I don't buy anything at all (unless it was a super awesome LE shades!!!) because honestly a lot of times we already have dupes or similar shades. Anyways, I'll worry on that when I get to HK so allow me to introduce you to my make up stash!

Flying Back!

Hey Lovelies~!

I'm so excited right now! I'm going back to Hong Kong on the 16th of May. I haven't been back to HK for about 2 years now so I'm very excited to go back and visit my relatives. Especially my daddy and my older sister (who is also my inspiration, model, idol, et all).

First thing first, I have to pack my suitcase. And O-M-GAWD is it a hard task! HK's weather is super hot and uncomfortable for me during the summer. My sweat always soaks through the material of my shirt, leaving the damp mark. Its not a very nice scene (>,<). Plus while outside is hot, all the malls have air-con inside making it very very cold. I need to pack clothings that is not too thick or too thin and be just right. For example, I'm having trouble deciding should I bring my shorts or not. Shorts would be perfect outside in the heat but too little inside the mall. Should I bring leggings? Lace leggings?

Another problem I'm having is to bring enough clothes. While Hong Kong is known for being a shopping heaven, a lot of their sizes leans toward the smaller scale. I will have to loose a bit of weight before I can go on a shopping spree for the lovely selection of clothes they have there.

I'm planning to stay there for 4 months at least. Currently I'm planning to bring 3 pairs of shorts, 4 dresses, 2 pairs of jeans, and 5 t-shirts. Hopefully I'll lose weight and be able to shop over there!

Oh I have such a huge headache over my shoes too! I need to bring a few pairs of my heels to get them alternated. I think I'll be wearing my runners or sandals mostly but I don't really want to bring too many there since I bought them there! I really want to buy a pair of sneakers (I don't have any!). Of course I can't forget about my makeup... I don't want to buy anymore in HK but I don't want to be stuck with the same eye colors everyday... ARGH so much stuff on my shopping list and no-buy list!

I must start planning!

Store Alert! - Winners

I was at my local Winners earlier and they have a whole new stock of cosmetics! This week they have a lot of Physician Formula's Mineral Wear, Organic Wear and E.L.F. products. There was two display of Ardelle's lashes and they also had a whole new shelf of nail polishes! (But I wasn't interested in them =P)

The E.L.F. encyclopedias. CND$16.99 if I remember correctly. This is actually two booklets, I took the picture of them side by side.
Photobucket

The E.L.F. 11 Piece Brush Collection for CND$24.99 (retail $30)
Photobucket

Physician Formula Shimmer Strips Custom Blush & Highlighter. CND$7.99 (retail $18.79)
This was the only item that caught my eyes from all the Physician Formula products. The rest were mainly face products. The four colors Sunkissed Glow, Natural Glow, Rosy Glow, and Healthy Glow. But I walked away from it since I already have more than enough waiting for me at home. (>,<)

Other random stuff I found while browsing around Winners. One was this bag:
Photobucket

Truth be told the bag was quite big. It even had a laptop case that was big enough for a 14" laptop! However, I felt the material and it seems a little too thin to be able to hold that much stuff. (Plus I'm not a big fan of snake skin patterns.)

Another items that I wished I could buy: Guess sandals. Size 8 & 1/2. CND$89.99.

Arn't they just gorgeous? On the tag Winners listed the retail price as "comparable to $200 and up." Unfortunately (or luckily for me) they were too big for me so I can't buy them. I guess it's a sign I don't need more shoes?

So what's at your local Winners?

Cosmetic Cravings & Cures

I'm no counselling experts nor have I spent thousands and thousands of dollars on cosmetic (maybe a few hundred, but anyways.) I have notice that I do get envious and the lemming to buy more after seeing other peoples' hauls. Sometimes it isn't that bad but on other days I want to rush out and buy everything new in store. The only thing that's stopping me is my sanity and the accumulating cost (read: lack of money).

Just last week, I was watching a makeup guru on YouTube who pointed out: a single Nars blush won't even hit pan after she's been using it everyday for a year! This realization is a bit scary - actually more than a bit scary, because I look at my stash and I have about eight blushes staring back at me...

If one blush last more than a year and I currently have eight blushes, does that mean I have enough blushes for sixteen years? Sixteen? 16!? Six-Teens!?

I brought up this little tidbit of info while I was out having bubble tea with my friend the other day and she agreed. She also continued to say, "I don't really understand why people buy so much makeup and sometimes of similar color too. The first one hasn't even been used up and they run off to buy a second, a third, etc. They'll never be able to use even half of it!"

First allow me to introduce my friend, JC. She is a very practical and down to earth girl. Make up is rarely on her face, she only put some on for events like girls night out or when she has formal work (she works as a tutor for her side job). So when I ask for her opinion I know I'll be getting practical and down to earth replies. Almost like asking a guy but she's nicer because she will notice the color difference while a guy will just say, "Yeah, you look nice."

That night I sat in my bed (okay not really but I can't remember where I came up with the idea) and I thought to myself, what can I do to kill off the urge for buying new cosmetic? Especially when they go on sale?

And I came up with the idea of making a list (I know, not very original) of the cosmetics that I have, I'll sort them by type and color, I'll list the price of the product, and I'll have a little bar on the side which I could fill in as I'm closer to finish up the product! Okay maybe not the last step, its a little too much work. I will also revisit my stash daily. Or weekly. Or whenever its convenient. After all, if I'm familiar with what I have then I won't be tricked into buying another product just because its from a different brand! Or if the same brand comes out with a new color with another name that's just a tad more shimmery, a bit more blue, a different undertone etc. I can just mix what I have in my stash to match that right?

April Haul: Dresses

If you live in Canada then you'll probably be familiar with the brand Suzy Shier?

Well just this past weekend (April 28th & 29th), Suzy Shier had a 30% off sale on all regular merchandise plus an extra 10% if you were a prestige member. That's a total of 40% for me!

Every since they had their Spring/Summer 2010 album posted on Facebook, I've been dying to get my hands on this dress.
Photobucket
Unfortunately the Suzy stores near me never ever had them! I checked back weeks after weeks but they just weren't there! Finally on the 27th when I was passing by my local Suzy *gasp!* It was here!!! I was so excited! And there was only one of each size left!? Shocked much? Very.

I grabbed my size and went to try it on. I knew it was perfect the moment I slipped it over my head. The dress fell on all the right spots. It was really form flattering and best of all, it hid my belly!

I took the dress and I was on my way to pay when I noticed a sales flier dropped under the clearance table. (o.O) I picked that up and... died (x.X)

40% off starting on the 28th!? Now who doesn't love a good discount? I really really wanted the dress but I also really really wanted the discount! With only one of each size left, I stood there debating should I buy it or risk it? I even went to the cashier and asked if they could hold the items for me till tomorrow but was denied. (T^T) One of the sales joked I should risk it for the discount since there was only two hours till closing, but the other sales just had to be the devil's advocate and say "but there's always a chance someone might come in to buy it!"

This so happened on the same day I found my Kathy Von Zeeland bag. So I put the dress down and comforted myself with the thought, "Hey! At least I bought a bag!" and swear to come back first thing in the morning as soon as they opened!

The next morning I woke up at 9 to get ready and catch the bus. One of the most stressing factors for that morning was the bus. There's only one bus that goes near my house and it only comes once an hour. If I miss that one I will have to walk four streets to the next nearest stop. Luckily I got there on time and I got to the store as it opened! There was only two dresses left, a small and a medium. I was so happy my size was still there for me!

I looked around the store since it was 40% and found a few more items that I liked. In fact, between the folds of the long dresses I found another dress, last of its kind and in my size!
Photobucket

Needless to say, I left Suzy Shier completely happy and smiling with my two new dresses!

Dear readers, have you ever had any Lucky Shopper stories happen to you? Please let me know in the comments below, I'll love to read yours as well!

April Haul: Bags & Accessories

Dear readers,

I'm so glad you came back to read another post of mine! This is part 2 of my April Haul because I rambled on too much on the first one. This is where my Lucky Shopper stories come in but after I get the tiny stuff out of the way!

First off, the movie (return of) Alice in Wonderland is such a hit! The companies sure are milking it for all it's worth! While I was down in the states during the Easter weekend, I picked up this lovely antique brass vintage inspired necklace from Walmarts for $7!
Photobucket

Now fast-forwarding to a few weeks after the movie has been released in Canada, I saw Claire's selling this necklace for double the price! Eek! I just hate the price of living here! I swear I'll move to the states one day!

Next up are my new bag & purses. I have never bought anything super expensive over CND$50 for myself before. Yes, for me CND$50 is considerer as super expensive already! (You will never find me posting anything over that! If I ever get a second chance to go shopping again!)
- A cute coin bag in a memorizing shade of blue on clearance for $4 from SmartSet.
- A pink Chanel inspired purse that my wonderful sister sent to me from Hong Kong!
This purse cost CND$45 on Facebook group! But my sister got it for HK$50!
I will never buy from Facebook groups!!!!!!
- My new favorite bag from Kathy Von Zeeland *Story!*

Remember in my last post I mention the sign from Cosmo that item belongs to you! This bag was it for me! I was browsing around in Winners on a mission to find a nice versatile bag that's good for days and great for nights. That I can pair with my jeans, my dress, and my skirts. That would look fabulous for a girls night out and nice for a date. I wanted a bag that I could use all year long and acceptable for all events and this bag was it!
Photobucket

This bag was hidden in the very very back of the lower bag racks at Winners. If I wasn't walking from the opposite direction and happen to spy the bag from the other side, I would have totally missed it! I had to get on my hands and knees and dig for it through all the bags that were in front. I'll like to think some other ladies saw the bag but couldn't make up their mind and hid it there. Hopefully I'm not making someone cry out there!

The bag retails for CND$120, at Winners they were selling it for CND$69.99 but I found a slight flaw...
Photobucket

I took it to the cashier and of course they tried to remove the stain first. After a good ten-minutes of waiting and watching them scrubbing, they bought the bag back to me with a 10% markdown for damage.
PhotobucketPhotobucket

Was I happy? Of course I was! (That was till I had to pay the taxes... 14% sure sucks! But that's a tale for another day.)

April Haul: Cosmetics

I'm a show off. Well not seriously. Usually I don't go shopping much. Anyways, this April I went on a shopping splurge. Some of you might be thinking, "Holy crap another rich b!tch!"
No!

If anything, I'm far from rich. Which is why I'm so happy (and slightly tispy) from this shopping spree. I haven't bought anything since December!!!

And for some of my purchases I have a Lucky Shopper story for them. Yes, I call them a Lucky Shopper story. You know how sometimes you find something you super-duper-uber deliriously love? And it just so happens, sitting on the shelf/rack was just that one last one waiting for you and you get the feeling its a sign from the Cosmo telling you it was meant to be!

Now onwards to my new lovelies!

First off is my makeup haul and as you can see (or will soon see) I'm a huge fan of drugstore make up.

My family took a trip down to the states during the Easter weekend and we dropped in to the Dollar Tree. O-M-G! My eyes popped out of my head when I saw the beauty isle. Sally Hansen for just $1!? That's unbelievable! Even when it goes on sale, the cheapest I've seen was $5.99! I snatched up four lip gloss (one I gave to mom) and one liquid liner to try out.

As for the Nyx cosmetics? They were on CLEARANCE! Clearance! Here! In Canada! Only $1 each!!! (variations by location) I went to three Save-on-Foods (Yes I'm a crazy cheapass or cheapass crazy) and this was my result:
- lip liner in Mauve.
- eye liner in Lavender (by accident, I thought it was a mascara),
- 2 eyeshadow trios in Dandy and Olive Groove,
- 3 mascara in Bronze, Navy, and Electric Blue.
The Nyx eyeshadow base was on sale, unfortunately not on clearance. For CND$7.99 well at least it is cheaper than UDPP and TFSI!

The two new Wet n' Wild nail polish was so lovely that I just had to get them! My friend I was sold by the new shade sticker on them, which may or may not be true? "Casting Call" looks very similar to Sally Hansen's "So Much Fawn" and Rimmel's "English Rose." Does anyone have a comparison I can see? It is also darker than I thought, I might mix some light shade into it. "Rain Check" is my absolute favorite at the moment. I might just have to buy a backup or two!

The new Annabelle trios were on sale for $4.99, which is the universal lowest sale price in Canada? I also bought their smoothliner and smudgeliner, I'm on the search for a good waterliner! Please let me know if you have any recommendations!

Photobucket

The Covergirl & Olay simply ageless cream blush in 230 Lushberry is my new favorite blush! I grab it when ever I'm in a hurry or on days when I don't want to put any make up on, I just dab a bit of this on my cheeks and I'm ready to go!

London Drugs had Revlon's Kohl eyeliner + bonus matte eyeshadow for $5.99! They came in three sets of shades, black, blue, and brown. I've always wanted to get Vintage Lace and while I was at it, I grabbed Riviera Blue as well.

The little pink compact in the middle is the Prestige eyeshadow Ballet. I've been looking for a pink eyeshadow to brighten up my eyes but doesn't make me look like I've been crying. I hope this one will work out, I'm currently using Annabelle's trio Rosewood but I don't think it's pink enough? Weird eh?
