Of family (rant)

So I've been away for a little while and things are a little bad. My great grandma (GGma) got a stroke and my mother decided to go back to spend some time with. The week before mom left, she got fired from her work. It would have been all right if she could still claim unemployed insurance, but her work place blamed her for the incident and won't let her claim it. My mom works at a child care centre and of course it was a big issue. However I still feel the employer blamed it on my mom because my mom's health is declining. Basically what happened at work: it was the change of shift and for some reason there was a pair of scissors laying around, one of the kids took it and cut his shirt's sleeves. My mom saw it and stopped the kid, but it was considered as my mom's fault for negating the kids.

This whole incident is just blowing my mind apart. Why is my mother getting blamed and not the child minder who's shift was before my moms?

What's more, when my mother tried to plead with the employer, the employer had a lot of excuses. Example: my mom is always looking down and she's always on the phone. Well HELLO? The kids are playing on the grounds, did you expect my mom to look up?  My mom is a single mom and she's working from 8AM till 5AM. Other than me, there's still my two younger siblings (age 15 and 13). Did you expect her to NOT call home and check on HER OWN KIDS?

I am very disappointed and upset at this centre for the excuses they are using to get rid of my mother. I really feel they're getting rid of my mom for reasons that they can't say because it discriminates. For example:
1. My mom's health. Its been going downward since 2009 and she's been claiming medical benefits. I'm not sure how this is effecting the employers but I do know my mom had been pushing herself hardar for her work.
2. Her English is deteriorating. Yes, deteriorating. Instead of improving, she's becoming more and more childlike in her speech, her pronunciation is horrible, and sometime in her manners too. She can't even pronounce "vegetables" correctly, she called them "veggie-table"
3. Mom is taking leave for 3 weeks to visit GGma. I honestly feel this is the ignition point. Mom wants to go away for 3 weeks and might extend that 3 weeks if GGma is dying. That's really not something employers would want to hear since it really messes up with the shift planning.
4. The employer's daughter is currently working part-time at the centre because all the full time position is full. I don't even want to elaborate on this point.

In the end, I wholeheartedly believe the centre just wanted to get rid of my mom and... I'm lost.

Sweet Deals @ Costco!

Here are some absolutlely awesome deals I've spotted in Costco this week. If you are interested in them, I highly suggest you hurry out to get them!
First off are the Borghese brushes! For those who are new, Borghese has colaborated with Kirkland since 2008 to lanuch new and unique sets of makeup brushes each year. They tend to come out annually during December but the 2010 brushes were recalled due to quality issue. The value of these brush sets are worth way waay waaay more than the retailed price. For this collection, the Borghese Costco 2011 is a 11 piece set for $23.99!

Next is the much raved Olay ProX cleansing system. The whole set shown below is only $36.99 whereas the regular price of the machine alone at other drugstore already cost $33! I've done the price checking for you and this is a retail value of $68 for only $36.99!

Last of today, Physician Fomulas' Bamboo Wear 4 piece set! There's only three shades available, which is Fair, Light, and Medium. It comes with a foundation, a bronzer, refillable bamboo compact, and the bamboo kabuki brush. While the kabuki brush is too stiff and scratchy for my liking, I don't mind using it on my body. The retail value of these seperately would cost $58, but here it is only $19.99!

There you go ladies! These are all bargains so good, they're like a steal! Once again, if you are interested in them then I highly suggest you hurry out to get them!

Another deal for me! Annabelle @ Winners

Remember less than a month ago when I bought the Annabelle special quad from Winners? I have never bought a backup for any makeup before because I believe every year more new (and sometimes better) things will come out, and also because the fads are different each year. However, from the Annabelle quad I have fallen completely in love with Laguna, the blueish-teal color, and was determined to get a back up for it even if I have to buy another quad! Unfortunately the Winners I usually go to was sold out of the quad and I had to go do some hunting around. Luckily for me, at a different Winners' location, I found it and the other palette!

However the quads were in the clearance bin. Which means a dreadful mess and not brand new condition. In fact, most of the boxes were opened or missing an eyeshadow!

At this Winners' I found two incomplete boxes. The first one had the compact & the three eyeshadow shown on the left. The second had a broken compact and the two eye shadows shown on the right.
While I really wanted both quads, even if they are on clearance for $5, I was still a little annoyed by the fact the second box had a broken compact & only two eyeshadows. I went to ask the manager if she would further reduce the second box since:
1. the compact is broken
2. there was only two eyeshadows
3. one of the eyeshadow was not even in full packing.
(Note: Laguna was already out of the black packaging before I bought it.)

The manager took a look at both boxes and realize they were suppose to come in packs of an eyeshadow compact and four eye shadows. She gave them all to me as one box for $5!

Box #1 had:
1 compact & 3 shadows. It was missing 1 shadow.

Box #2 had:
1 shadow & 1 incomplete packing shadow. It was missing 2 shadows & the compact was broken.

Basically she had to declare box#2 as damaged anyways and decided to give me all 6 items as one box. This was a $26.50 retail value for just $5!

Stalking the stores: London Drugs

London Drugs seem to have put out the new cosmetic displays!

Maybelline is all about soft subtle shades.
Soft lilac, nudes, and pinks.

OPI Texas' collection: I'm loving that soft grey & white blue.

More cackle nail polishes? The fad is spreading like wildfire! A cheaper alternative to China Glazed and OPI's collection.

Stalking the stores: Winners

I was stalking my local Winners when I saw these new(?) nail polishes. I was intrigued by their packaging so I snapped a shot. I did not buy nor do I know anything about this brand except the intriguing packaging. I thought it was... interesting?

Next up, this is some sort of nail oil with natural herd extract. Inside is a lot of tiny flower blossoms. If I have bought the item, I would have kept it for decoration sake.

(Please excuse the crappy photos, I recently had to downgrade my phone. Its now a 2.0 mega pixel...)

In the perfume section, the Summer LE collection of Harajuku is here! These are the 15ml bottles for $16.99 each.

Harajuku designs different scent for each collection. I was away when this collection first came out, so I have no clue how they smell like.

But that's not a problem since I still have their Spring 2009 collection. ♥
And yes, this is ELF. The same ELF that's suppose to cost US $3 is costing us CAD $6.99 +12% tax. That darn tax!

With the currency exchange of CAD $100 to US $104, this blush would cost more than US $7.

I would much rather DRIVE to the states and do a massive haul than buy this in Canada!
the RUNWAY collection at Winners: featuring Coach bags.

I love the design of this bag, if only there was another color!

Lace is in season this year! Will you wear lace short shorts?

Cute Hello Kitty candies. I love the little tin box!

From my Save on Foods, there was a huge selection of pigments, blushes, and eyeshadow trios. There was some glitter jumbo sticks, lip liner, lip gloss, and diamond shine lipsticks as well. Given the color selection, I carefully picked out my purchase. At only $1 each, its easy to go overboard! >,<

What's happening in Vancouver!

Over this weekend I've been doing my usual round of window shopping. (Or not so window shopping anymore since I did buy stuff.) BUT it did started out as window shopping... Till I found some bargains that I just couldn't pass up!
First off, a new store opened up in my area:

At first I thought it was an actual branch of US's Target coming to Canada. I was sooo happy! Until I got inside.

This store is NOT related to the US's Target at all. All the clothing inside ... well, they're the usually boring clothing we can find in any other store.

OH of course, other than t-shirts like this:

Moving along: Walmart has a full display of these "Spa resource" brushes! I remember seeing the brand before but the brushes weren't as pretty as now. I haven't tried them before, but they look pretty similar to ELF's mineral collection? Do leave a comment if you have tried these brushes!

Last, at my local Winners I found some over stocks of Annabelle's special quads (at least that's how I'll be referring them!) These are from a previous promotion from a few months back and they come in two different packages. One is what I have below, lovely greens, yellow, and silver. The other (from what I remember) is a quad of darker blues, purple, and grey/black.

Annabelle's special quad: $7.99 +tax
You get:
1 custom eye quad, retail value: $5.25
4 eyeshadows, retail value: $4.25 each
- Misted Up, a satin silver
- Laguna, a blue teal
- Fun burst, a light goldish yellow
- Martian, a light olive green

The total retail value of this is $22.25 but even with tax I'm paying less than $2 per item! I am, of course, jumping up and down with happiness because this is a wonderful spring/summer quad and Annabelle has excellent quality for a drugstore brand.

Very very last of all, I saw this at London Drugs and I'm not sure should I be laughing or crying?

You're not mistaken folks, Sinful nail polishes selling at 2 for $7 like its the best price every!?!?!?

Laugh because of the ridiculous pricing
and cry because of the ridiculous pricing.

Sinful nail polish are less than $1.99 each in the states. To see it being sold for $3.99 each in Canada is like ... Ouch...

And so...

I've been debating for a while if I should be posting this or not because I feel pretty darn bad posting about my purchases or other funny things I've found with what's happening in Japan right now. I notice a lot of my favorite bloggers are still posting what they usually post about, so hey, life goes on right?

On to what I wanted to post about!

Recently I had the fortune to head down to the states with my family. It was actually a grocery trip. I live pretty close to the boarder so buying grocery and gas in the states is actually cheaper for my family! The only downside is the lineup at the boarder. But what's an hour or two compare to all the savings we get from gas, groceries, and my favorite makeup deals!

Our route usually goes: Costco, Wal-Mart, Target, Cost Cutter, Rite-Aid, and sometimes Home depot  and Walgreen... Honestly these are the only places we go.

So on this particular trip we stopped by at Target and ELF cosmetics were in stock! Last time I went to the states, this location did not have ELF in stock yet. So I was super excited!

I've been wanting to get my hands on these custom eye quads for a while. I have some eyeshadow that I want to depot to conserve space but haven't been able to bring myself to pay for the shipping nor splurge on more cosmetics just for the free shipping! Funny thing, that morning at Target the rack was bursting full of quads but by the time I returned there was only half left!

At the end of the day, these were the only items I bought.

From Target:
E.L.F: 1 shadow primer, 2 eye shadow, 2 hyper shine lipgloss, and 3 custom eye quads.

From Rite-Aid:
Physician's Formula BOGO 1/2: Happy Booster blush and Healthy Wear foundation w/ bonus bronzer! Duo end green concealer for red spots and Duo end yellow concealer for dark circles.
Loreal's lash booster pack: lash primer, mascara, & lash serum!
